Marco Brambilla
Brambilla is a photographer known for his elaborate context
utilisation of popular and found imagery. I chose to recreate this image as I believe it represents stress and pressure. I feel as though this image demonstrates a busy life for someone with lots to do and these things lead to too much pressure and stress on a person. The multiple faces aspect of the images shows there's a lot going on in their lives and in their heads. The lack of ability to cope with this pressure is represented by the various expressions. Brambilla's images are very low saturation, almost completely black and white however around the lips and the eye area there is some skin tone. In my mind represents slight life, almost as if they are that stressed that they are inhuman.
To create the image on the right he has photographed a woman's portrait in multiple different head positions and facial expressions. To take the images I used a fast shutter speed this is necessary when doing portraiture photography to get a still focused image. I used a wide aperture to let lots of light in this drastically improves the quality of the images my camera takes. A low ISO was used to create a clear image with no noise improving the quality of my edits. To design the image I layered multiple of these image on top of one another, to create the merged effect the edges of her face have been softened dramatically with a large rubber tool which had a soft edge this enabled the skin to blend. I then dramatically increased the brightness and contrast, this has given the washed out pale effect to the faces in the image. I then positioned the faces in a similar layout to the original Marco Brambilla image however I allowed them to differ slightly to create my own image. I decided to do this shoot as I believe the image represents a kind of busyness and the feeling of being trapped. From this it links to my own life in which I have so many things to do and pressures applied that I feel as though I am trapped and not free to live my life the way I would want to. I feel as though this represents sadness and stress each being strong emotions.

Developments;
For this shoot I decided to do the developments as a physical version of my edits. i feel as though this represents are darker side to stress rather than a bright soft side as the images show in the first shoot. in my development I cut them with a hard edge and a black background these both represent the truth hidden in stress.
I printed lots of pictures (un-cropped) which I had already edited, I had given them a high brightness and contast. I then used a craft knife to cut the faces of my model out of the image, I positioned these on a black piece of card before glueing them down. I used black card as I think it shows a better contrast behind the brightened images, it also emphasises the hard edges rather than the fade in my original edits.
